Albies yesterday: marathon shopping style

2 Transactions: $9.30 spent, $58.81 saved

I has a nutty cashier who refused to double two of my coupons for reasons I've never heard, so I spent a little bit more than anticipated but I did get a $2 survey receipt (probably because it took her so long to ring up my order) and I qualify for a $5 rebate (for buying the three Glade products). We also hit another store where I bought (all for free) 3 packs of Nestle Cookie dough, 3 king-sized Reese's (for the husband), and 4 packs of Tree Top (pictured below) saving a total of $25 or so (not calcualted above).

gah! I just realized she didn't even scan my Prego coupon in all that mess. So I should have paid about $3 less. I knew my total was off, but she was so rude and I was so frustrated I couldn't think clearly.

My mom's donation stuff brag:
My mom was super excited about the peanuts being a nice donation item, especially with the upcoming holidays so we (but mostly she) hit a ton of local stores and collected a ton of peanuts- but didn't shelf-clear. She did end up paying $0.50 for one transaction because the one cashier goofed something up but that's not much compared to the retail value here (the nuts themselves would have been over $160)!

  1. WOW!!!!! That is amazing. Money saving runs in your family. I hate when cashiers mess up your order. I swear that I have had a few that did it on purpose. I don't know why everyone is making it harder to use them. It's getting to the point around here that you have to put everything that you have a coupon for to the side and show each one. Or they tear threw every bag just to find the item even if the register rings it up!

  2. haha, my mom is my shopping buddy. She did coupons when I was really little and is loving them now, especially since we're able to donate so much.

  3. My Mom is my couponing buddy too. Now that we have my aunt and sister couponing it is quite the show when we shop together. lol (Especially when we have all the kids in tow)

  4. What a good job you did!

I am curious now, why wouldn't they let you use the other two doublers? If it's not too long of a story, I'd love to know!

  5. Jane, apparently you cannot double an IP... then she said because the bagel bites were $1.99 and if I have a $1 coupon she'd have to double it for exactly $1 and since $1.99 is less than $2 she cannot do it (she even pulled out a calculator to show me the math). I've always heard and seen the TVQ put in as $0.99 in that case (to make the item free but not give overage) but when I asked about that she started yelling at me. Of course in all of that, she missed scanning the $1 prego (the only one she said she could double).

  6. Maygan,

I was talking with a cashier yesterday, He was so freaked out to take my coupons. He told me that they were pretty much threatened with their jobs if they didn't take coupons correctly. Two different stores that I went to yesterday called over a front end manager to make sure they were able to double my cookie dough and get it for free. I think corporate and management is really cracking down on the cashiers.

  7. Michele, I understand that and that's why I didn't press the issue of bagel bites. The husband likes them and I had no problem paying $0.99 after coupon for them. My problem was the yelling. She could have offered to call a manager for me after my transaction or something, but her actions were not warranted. I didn't raise my voice or complain that I should have gotten overage (or demand that she make them free)- just calmly let her know what I have always seen as the policy at her store.

I have heard other cashiers talk about having to watch for expireds, military only, and overage and have seen some nervous cashiers. However, I've talked with the manager at this store previously and he loves when deals work out to free because he knows they're making money off it and appreciates customers coming in to his store.

  8. how do you get free peanuts???

  9. Anon, the free peanuts deal ended on Tuesday. They were on sale for $2.50 each with an instant $3 off at the register when you purchased 4. We bought 4 at a time using four $1 coupons (found at Safeway last week) and three of the Twice Value Coupons in Albertson's flyer.
